Floccus-like mesoporous MWCNT microballs as hosting substrates are successfully synthesized via electrostatic spray and subsequent melt-diffusion of sulfur into mesoporous MWCNT spheres. The sulfur-impregnated MWCNT cathode shows excellent electrochemical cell performance for long-term and high rate capability; there was also improved mechanical–chemical stability of the composite electrode.
