On June 5th, the 27th Shanghai University Students' Outstanding Thesis (Design) Competition in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, hosted by the Shanghai Society of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, was successfully held. The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) submitted four undergraduate theses, among which one was awarded the Special Prize (only two were awarded in total), two awarded the First Prize, and one awarded the Second Prize, achieving the highest comprehensive score among Shanghai universities.

SCCE attached great importance to this event. After rigorous selection, cross-blind review by judges, multiple rounds of pre-defense revisions, and an intense on-site defense, four undergraduate students stood out with remarkable achievements.

Lize DONG from Chemistry major (Qiangji Plan) won unanimous praise from the judges for his thesis titled "Study on the Stereo-controlled Cationic Polymerization of n-Butyl Vinyl Ether" (supervised by Prof. Yongfeng ZHOU), ultimately securing one of the only two Special Prizes in the competition.

Yunhao WEI from Chemistry major, with his thesis "Prediction and Experimental Verification of Intrinsic Color of Polyimide Films Using Density Functional Theory" (supervised by Prof. Qinghua LU), and Xuefei HU from Polymer Science major, with her thesis "Construction of PEG-Modified DNA Nanomachines and Their Application in Iron Overload Treatment" (supervised by Prof. Zhilei GE), both received full recognition from the judges, winning the First Prize.

Yao YE from Chemistry major also received high praise from the judges for her thesis "Interface Regulation Study of Pulsed Electrochemical Reduction of Carbon Dioxide" (supervised by Professor Xu Pengtao), wining the Second Prize.

This event provided a platform of sharing and innovation enhancement for all undergraduate graduates in chemistry and chemical engineering in Shanghai. It fosters exploration of science, academic exchange, intellectual inspiration, and innovation. SCCE will continue to optimize the management process of undergraduate theses, strengthen the guidance on thesis writing, and ensure the quality of education and talent cultivation.

The Shanghai University Students' Outstanding Thesis (Design) Competition in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was established in 1995 (originally the Shanghai University Students' Outstanding Thesis Exchange Conference in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering). Held annually, it aims to promote educational reform and enhance the quality of professional education, improve the academic quality of undergraduate talents and their theses, and expand the exchange of education in chemistry and chemical engineering among universities.
