Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as a special class of nanoporous materials over the past two decades. The judicious selection of metal oxides and organic linkers allow the pore size, volume and functionality to be tailored in a rational manner for designable architectures. Therefore, MOFs provide a wealth of opportunities for engineering new functional materials and are considered as versatile candidates for many important potential applications. The number of MOFs is constantly growing and in principle unlimited. It is thus practically infeasible to experimentally test and select appropriate MOFs from infinite candidates for specific applications. As an alternative, computational approaches have become an indispensable tool in the characterization, screening and design of MOFs. In this seminar, I will give an overview of the computational studies from my research group towards energy, environmental and pharmaceutical applications in MOFs, such as carbon capture, water desalination, biofuel purification, chiral/pharmaceutical separation.

 

报告人简介
Jianwen Jiang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, the National University of Singapore. His research expertise is computational materials modeling and simulation, currently focusing on nanoporous and membrane materials for engineering applications (such as carbon capture, water treatment, and drug delivery). He has published about 160 technical manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and been invited to contribute several book chapters/reviews. He is on the editorial board of Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing Group), Advances in Materials Research, Colloid and Interface Science Communications, etc. In 2010, he won the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award from the Institution of Engineers, Singapore.
